Worksheets

In secondary 3 and 4, O level syllabus, chapter 4 defines how we look at substances. They should belong to one of the categories, 1. an element, 2. a compound or 3.  a mixture.

In science, it is crucial to be able to differentiate between a pure substance and mixtures.

Are you able to do so with ease?

Study Notes

In secondary 3 and 4, O level syllabus, under the chapter Metals, students are introduced to the properties of metals,  the extraction process and the reactivity series.

The concept of reactivity series is one of the fundamentals in chemistry that require a certain level of understanding coupled with a slight effort in memorising.

As mentioned in our blog entry titled "To score well in exams, you need to be exam smart",  2 of our strategies which are

1. The Use of Story Telling

2. The Use of Analogies

were used to aid our student in the memorising part.

Colourless liquid = Water?!?

When given a colourless liquid, can we assume it to be pure water all the time?

If not, how can we correctly identified the unknown colourless liquid?

What are some of the diagnostic tools that we can use to make sense out of it?
